FW 3.09!

I must compliment the folks at Velocomp. Firmware 3.09 is fantastic. I guess I figured that the real time absolute wind screen would be nice to validate what my legs were already telling me, and it is, but it is so much more. I’ve already found this feature to be a valuable tool in a number of situations.

I went out to do some climbing repeats today, and put my heart rate belt on for the first time in quite a while. I start up the hill in Fit Train, push the center button, and start holding the wattage # I was looking for. Ok, I glance down to see how I’m doing compared to my normal time up this climb, and, wait, what’s that number alternating with the chrono? Hmmm, I guess that had better be my heart rate. How slick is that?

After the interval is over, I go to check my time and average power, and how about that, there is AHR as well. I suppose I would have known about this if I read the release notes, but what a nice surprise.

On my iAero, the wind offset is much more temperature stable than it ever has been, and like John, I now largely just push the center button and ride.

Thanks to Velocomp for continuing to improve their products with free upgrades. If potential customers had any idea as to just how much better the current product is compared to Gen I and Gen II, I don’t think many of them would spring for an SRM, Quarq, or Powertap.

Not only is the iBike generating reliable power numbers, it’s got so many useful features that the competition doesn’t have.

It was worth the wait for the current Gen III version.
